Inspired by Iceland?

I’ve been writing Daily Life columns for Iceland Review for a while now. I really enjoy doing them and most of the time the feedback is really nice. Most of the time. However, I thought it was about time I revealed my ulterior motive to readers. Either that or a shameless spot of self-promotion!

Puffin Fact #2

Puffin Fact #2: Despite being called “pufflings”, baby Puffins are super vicious, and would bite your fingers off given the chance. Several high profile Icelanders have missing fingers as a result. (with thanks to @ChloFun)

Crazy Puffin Facts.

I’m going to try something new. Mainly for my own amusement. The comedian David O’Doherty is a funny man. Very funny in fact. He has published a couple of books – 100 facts about pandas, and 100 facts about sharks. The facts are not necessarily true, but are always amusing. For example ‘The Panda smells […]

Ólafur Arnalds

I am feeling kind of sleepy and washed out at the moment. Maybe its the weather, maybe its the long shifts at work. However, one thing that I have got into that really helps is Ólafur Arnalds beautiful, orchestral music. This one is from ‘Stare’ released with Nils Frahm for Record Store Day.

BBC Volcano Live in Westman Islands

The BBC show Volcano Live (yeah, I know!) is showing plenty of Iceland at the moment. Yesterday they showed Eyjafjallajökull, in all her ferocity, including lots of shots of people sleeping on airport floors. Today, its going to be Heimaey in Westman Islands. I was there a couple of weeks ago. I was stunned by what […]

Cool or geeky?

Is this cool or geeky? I got this t-shirt at the Surtsey exhibition in Heimaey. I really like it. It shows the island’s outline as time goes on. Forget it, I don’t care what you think. I like it. I’m wearing it now. Geological themed t-shirts rock!

Iceland Airwaves 2012: Video

This is a really neat video of all the Airwaves venues – in 3 minutes. Its shot in brilliant sunshine, which makes Reykjavik look like the Barbados, but is somewhat unlikely in October/November. The soundtrack is FM Belfast, by the way.

Days of Gray.

There is a film being made in Iceland this summer. There are several actually, but this one doesn’t star Tom Cruise or Ben Affleck, or even follow any of the usual rules of the movie world. It’s already caught the imagination of a band of Internet followers, and is the sort of magic that could […]

Luscious Samaris video.

Samaris have released a video for Góða tungl. I really like it. Its definitely a late night song, all trip-hop beats and gentle vocals. Its luscious.  I have recently interviewed Samaris for Iceland Review, and I can’t wait to see them at Airwaves.
