1950’s guide to Iceland

Deep in a dusty but excellent bookshop in Inverness, I found a copy of a 1950 guide book to fishing in Iceland. Written by a British Major General, it’s full of old world charm, delicious descriptions of an Iceland 60 odd years ago and advice on where to go fishing.
General Stewart lived in Fort William, Scotland and like me, became increasingly obsessed with Iceland.
One chapter is delightfully named ‘some odd notes’ and talks about the Hekla volcanic eruption only 3 years earlier.
I hope that my book will one day be found in a dusty bookshop and still provide such pleasure to its readers as the General’s does.
